Located at north end of downtown Kapaa on the main strip. On left as you head toward Lihue. Description: o∙no- Delcious, tasty, savory; to relish. o∙no∙lic∙ious- Same as previous, but only found at Ono Family Restaurant. This is the claim made on the front of the menu at Kapaa’s Ono Family Restaurant, a longtime favorite for those seeking a warm and friendly place to dine-"local kine." This claim is confidently backed up with award winning dishes such as the Portuguese Bean Soup and Ono’s Homemade Chili. Open for breakfast and lunch, guests may choose from both diner-style menus all day. For Breakfast, with unique dishes such as the Local Boy, an omelette made with Island Portuguese sausage, kim chee, and cheese or the more standard Ono # 2, eggs and a choice of ham or sausage, served with rice (as with most breakfast offerings) or hash browns, there is something for every palate. There are even many tasty ovo-vegetarian options like the Eggs Florentine, poached eggs with blanched spinach, mushrooms, and Hollandaise sauce, served over an English muffin and a number of smoothie choices as well. Like breakfast, Ono is serving-up something for everyone at lunchtime, with plenty of sandwiches, burgers, and plate lunches. Come hungry, as the portions are quite large and a good value. The plate lunches come with your choice of rice or fries, a soup or a salad, and steamed veggies. Salads and lots of side items are available for those with smaller appetites, and the papaya seed dressing is a must! Save room for desert, Coconut and Macadamia Nut Custard pies are offered to satisfy your sweet tooth. Before you leave, don’t forget to pick-up a jar of Auntie Ono’s homemade Pineapple Papaya Jam or Coconut Syrup. The ambiance is quaint, with lots of big screened-in windows, perfect for people watching in downtown Kapaa and there are many personal touches. Ono is very kid-friendly with things like plastic table cloths and cups. While there, you may want to take a stroll around the restaurant to see lots of family photos and awards that have been bestowed upon the restaurant’s owner for his contributions to the community. A very sweet place with lots to offer- onolicious. Written By: Rana Jackson Map In This Category
