The ambiance is what makes The Hanamaulu Tea House and Sushi Bar a particularly special gem on Kauai. While the food is also quite good, representing one of the better sushi restaurants on the island, the lovely Japanese garden and the open-air traditional style of seating will keep you thinking back to your last relaxing dinner here and planning the next. The enchanting garden, with a serene Koi pond and many native-Japanese plantings, is a beautiful example of the connection between food and nature—the food really seems to taste better among the water lilies.

The Hanamaulu Tea House is frequented mostly by locals, especially at lunch, but visitors are starting to catch on to the secret. The Tea House serves lunch and dinner, although sushi and outdoor garden seating are only available for dinner. For lunch, the restaurant offers a limited menu, but the portions are generous, especially the Japanese and Chinese plate lunch specials, which are primarily meat dishes. For dinner, guests may chose from a full ala carte menu ranging from cooked meat, seafood, and vegetarian dishes to soups and salads or opt for one of the complete multi-course "dinners for two." In addition, an extensive menu featuring an array of sushi pieces, hand rolls, and Sashimi (raw fish) is offered. On Sunday evenings, from 5:30-8:30, the Tea House puts on an oriental buffet (and the sushi bar is closed). Desserts here are unique and are sure to please the sweet tooth, with items such as Green Tea Ice Cream, Deep Fried Custard, and Guava Sherbet. All dinners are served with a complimentary pot of Japanese Green Tea.

For sushi connoisseurs or visitors looking for something a little different, The Hanamaulu Tea House and Sushi Bar is an excellent choice.

This is a less known establishment to visitors, but it is a real find if you enjoy an easy-going, relaxed atmosphere with beautiful surrounds and excellent under-priced sushi. Go early though. It is right off on the main hiway (if you call it that) in Old town. A must go if you want a great place

this is a hit or miss restaurant.fairly
good food but unfortunately the attitude
of the servers leaves a lot to be desired, they can be very rude. also
the opening/closing times are irregular. not a friendly hawaiian spirit at all.
