From the H1 westbound follow the Waianae signs past Makakilo and continue along Farrington Hwy past the powerplant. The beach is on the right near Nanakuli Ave. Description: Far from the south shore congestion, along the leeward coast in the Waianae district of Oahu, this country beach is about a 45 minute drive from downtown Honolulu and offers an uncrowded and sunny setting that is rejuvenating and relaxing. Located near the first stop light past the power plant, this beach is just one of many incredible beaches along the Waianae coast that offer lots of recreational opportunities. Zablan Beach has a long history that runs deep in the local community. The Zablans were a notable family who came to Hawaii in the mid 1800’s. In 1916 Ben Zablan a descendant of the original immigrants was appointed to the post of Waianae district magistrate. He then moved to Nanakuli and made his home next to the mouth of the Nanakuli stream. Although the family has since moved off the beach to nearby Hawaiian Homestead lands, many area locals still refer to this beach as Zablan Beach. On any given day children can be found wading in the water or area locals gathering for seaside memorial services. The beach is located near the mouth of Nanakuli stream and offers beachgoers an area that is safer and calmer than the larger adjacent Nanakuli Beach Park. The blue-green water is clear warm and refreshing and protected almost always from rip currents and large waves. The beach is popular for families and others who are just interested in enjoying the sea shore. The area is also popular for divers. The calm waters provide wonderful opportunities especially for those who are just learning the sport. The area is very sunny and dry with hardly any large trees to offer shade so a strong sunscreen is highly recommended. Written By: Lottie Tagupa Map In This Category
