From the H1 weatbound continue past Makakilo until the freeway anrrows into Farrington Hwy. Continue past Ko'Olina to the Kahe Power Plant. The beach and roadside parking is located across the street from the power plant. Description: Largely a "locals only" beach, Waipahu Beach is located along the leeward coast of O’ahu and about a 40 minute drive from Honolulu, this relatively remote and uncrowded beach is located across Farrington Highway from the huge Hawaiian Electric power plant. It easily accessibly by taking the H1 freeway westbound. The freeway turns into Farrington Highway just past Kapolei and the power plant is located just a mile or two past Ko’Olina. The area is almost always sunny with a cool tradewind breezes and offers panoramic views of the leeward coastline, and the Waianae mountains range. Many years ago, the beach was called Waipahu beach. Then it was owned by sugar cane companies who offered up the space for employees and families that came from the Waipahu area to enjoy the beach and for family gatherings. More recently, the break just offshore of the park became known as Tracks for the old sugar cane train tracks that are located at the entrance to the beach. The area is still widely known to this day as Tracks. The park known to most as Hawaiian Electric Beach Park is popular with area residents and clean, something that is largely in part due to Hawaiian Electric Company who was responsible for improving the park several years ago and maintains it today. Parking is readily available along the roadside, and the park offers many amenities. The beach has a sandy bottom along with a gentle slope rather than a drop off into deeper waters. It is popular with surfers and is also a good beach for diving, body surfing and more. Ocean currents and large waves are present in the winter months and such conditions require extra caution by beachgoers. Written By: Lottie Tagupa Map In This Category
