Mokuleia is a very family friendly community on Oahu's North Shore. Travelers keep venturing back to this area for winter time surfing and summertime swimming. Known for not being crowded, there are miles of white beaches and crystal blue, warm waters. Visiting this small country town is like stepping back into time. The locals have not changed things in the past 40 or 50 years. The atmosphere is laid back with a twist of aloha spirit. Aside from water adventures like snorkeling and surfing, a ranch near town offers horseback riding and hiking in the Waianae Mountains. Dillingham Airfield is close and hang gliding and sky diving are a main attraction. Accommodations are scarce here -- renting a beach houses is the best bet. Small mom and pop eateries abound, but finding fine dining is harder. The main reason to visit Mokuleia is for professional surfing, and experiencing the beaches in an old Hawaiian setting.
