Description:
Located on the northern tip of Windward Oahu, near the town of Laie is Laie Beach Park, known to locals simply as Pounders Beach. With a long strip of beautiful golden sand and a whole lot of wave action, it is easy to see why this beach is so popular. Boogie boarders flock to this beach during the winter months, for it's not called Pounders Beach for nothing! For those that are looking for tamer waters, Pounders Beach also has a protected swimming area known as "bathtub beach" for its super calm waters, located to the left, past the old pier pilings and around the corner. Be aware though bathtub beach is not always accessible due to the tide which can completely cover up the strip of sand that leads to bathtub beach. It’s also not advisable to go out there during high surf.

For those not so interested in venturing into the water, Pounders Beach offers a long strip of sand perfect for strolling or sunbathing. A rock wall to the right, facing the wave action also provides some additional seating as does a grassy bank, which has lots of shade. Picnic tables complete this little beach, making it the perfect place to stop and picnic while watching the surfers. Be aware though that there are no restroom facilities there, nor are there lifeguards however there are shower facilities.

If you're in Laie, perhaps visiting the Polynesian Cultural Centre, or just taking a drive along the beautiful windward coast, Laie/Pounders Beach is a must do, both as a place to watch the north shore wave action and to enjoy a quiet beach away from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu.
