From H-3 take the HI-630 exit towards Kailua. Take the Kailua ramp and merge onto Mokapu Saddle Road, follow as it becomes Mokapu Blvd and then finally becomes Mokapu Road. This will take you to Kaneohe MCBH.

It might surprise visitors to hear that hidden away, across the other side of the runway, deep inside Kaneohe Marine Corps Base is some truly spectacular beach property. And for those who are military or military dependents, Fort Hase beach in Kaneohe Marine Corp Base Hawaii is definitely worth the visit.

With miles of rocky shoreline, this beach is definitely not your average tropical beach. If you’re looking for a nice day at the beach, you may wish to look elsewhere. However, if watching the roaring ferocity of Mother Nature, as waves pound a rocky shoreline is the kind of beach that you prefer, then Fort Hase beach is a treat! The beach features a beautiful rocky shore, carved away by the ocean, and incredible lava shelves that fills with water every time the waves crash nearby. It is easy to feel humbled by this magnificent beach. Certainly, this is not a spot for swimming or snorkeling. Only experienced surfers should consider surfing at Fort Hase beach, but for those who want to quietly watch Mother Nature at work, this beach is perfect. In addition, when the tide is not in, the rocky shoreline makes for a nice beach stroll. And if you’re lucky, and it’s the right time of year, you may even spot whales in the distance. If you’re looking to stay on base, you might want to consider booking one of the little cottages that overlook the beach. And if you tire of the beach, and are looking for something different, nearby Kaneohe bay is a wonderful place to kayak. Certainly, Fort Hase beach is not for everyone. But if you’re looking for a different type of beach, and you have access to the Kaneohe MCBH then I definitely encourage you to stop by this impressive beach.

i have old photos (1943 ) of Ft. Hase beach when we switched the "Officer's Beach" sign to the "Enlisted Beach" side. "All same sand..." Barbed wire down to water, and a watch tower...Officer's club too...no peons admitted. I was a Tech/3rd Army ordnance.
