From H-3 take the HI-630 exit towards Kailua. Take the Kailua ramp and merge onto Mokapu Saddle Road, follow as it becomes Mokapu Blvd and then finally becomes Mokapu Road. This will take you to Kaneohe MCBH. Description: Pyramid Rock beach is a pretty cove of sand with a wonderful ocean view, located on the northern end of Kaneohe Marine Corp Base Hawaii. Many of the other beaches on this base are comprised of lava shelves, rocky coasts and strong wave action. But for a calm, sandy beach on the Marine Corps base, Pyramid Rock beach can’t be beat. The beach is named for the pyramid shaped rock that almost protrudes out into the ocean. Unlike the other beaches on base, Pyramid Rock beach is protected by Kaneohe Bay, making for lovely calm water; whether you want to swim or kayak, the waters at Kaneohe Bay are spectacular. It is also a great place to look for whales. Whale season runs from roughly December to April, and the wide expanse of ocean that can be viewed from Pyramid Rock beach, makes it an ideal spot for whale watching. Also, the pretty strip of sand at Pyramid Rock is perfect for sunbathing or strolling. And, if you get tired of the beach, there are other activities to do in the area. For instance, Kaneohe Bay is a perfect place for kayaking. Also, hammerhead sharks give birth in Kaneohe Bay. It is fair to say that looking at baby hammerhead sharks while kayaking is definitely unforgettable. But don’t worry; they’re more likely to eat reef fish and rays rather than people. If you plan to stay in Kaneohe Marine Corp Base Hawaii, consider renting one of the many beachside cottages. Perched, overlooking the ocean, these cottages have better views than some Waikiki hotels! For those in the military, or with family in the military, Pyramid Rock Beach is a perfect little deserted beach to help you get back to nature, well away from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu.
