From the H1 eastbound, take the Vineyard st off ramp, turn left onto Nuuanu and left onto Merchant St. The restaurant will be on the right. Description: Located on a small side street just steps from the waterfront and main thoroughfares of downtown Honolulu, this quaint little bar has great service, friendly atmosphere and more. The area is an historical one that reaches back to the days of the Hawaiian Monarchy. The bar is the holder of one of five of the very original bar licenses issued on the island in the mid 1800’s when the building was known as the Royal Hotel. Catering to sailors and other maritime activity from the nearby harbor, it was said that the island’s Kings were frequent visitors along with other period notables. The setting is about an authentically Irish as one can possibly hope for here in the islands and needless to say, this is THE spot to celebrate St Patrick’s Day island style where each year throngs of party goers don their green and pour out into the surrounding streets to raise a glass of green beer and other libations in honor of the occasion. On a day to day basis, this award winning bar is quite popular with bankers, attorneys, stockbrokers and others who wander the two blocks from the downtown high rises to enjoy lunch or an after work attitude adjustment. It is also quite the sports bar on weekends and along with a short menu of pub fare, it’s a perfect place to relax, imbibe and take in the wonderful cordial atmosphere. If you plan a visit be sure to allow extra time to locate and secure a parking spot, the area is notorious for the lack of adequate street parking and the nearby parking lots have rates that will make your head spin faster than a pint of imported brew.
