From the H-1 eastbound take the Kinau Street offramp, turn right onto Ward Avenue and turn left on Auahi St. and cros Kamakee St. The entrance to Ward Centre will be on the right. Description: Other restaurants in this complex have come and gone over the years, but Compadres has been an absolute anchor when it comes to satisfying Hawaii’s south-of-the-border cravings for tacos, burritos and tequila. In the same location for over 20 years, this restaurant has been voted "Hawaii’s Most Favorite Mexican Restaurant" more than once and is the spot for fun, friends, fresh flavors and fajitas. The restaurant is festive with authentic accents of white, red and green, and the atmosphere is upbeat, friendly and hospitable. The restaurant for the most part is indoors, but the large windows and a lovely alfresco dining area give the entire place a light outdoorsy feel. Views from the restaurant are not grand but one can certainly enjoy a nice view of nearby Ala Moana Park, the setting Hawaiian sun, or a glimpse of the blue Pacific Ocean and surf past the rows of fishing boats moored at Kewalo Basin. The reasonably priced menu is definitely more Tex-Mex than traditional but it excels at offering flavorful traditional favorites along with a serious collection of modernized dishes to please even those who are shy about exceptionally bold flavors. Vegetarians need not be on guard here, the staff is very accommodating and will turn selections into a fanciful meatless experience. Other favorites on the menu include fresh fish tacos, carnitas, huge salads and desserts like fried ice cream. There are ongoing margarita, tacos and beer specials, and even a kiddie menu. But, it’s during "pau hana" or the after work hours that this place shifts into high gear. Workers pour into the bar for Margaritas, Mojitos and Mai Tais. The bar gets crowded, boisterous and these de-stressing sessions can continue well into the evening. On Friday nights there is an added bonus of live Hawaiian music and on weekends, you will find the restaurant and bar dominated by a young singles and dating crowd. Valet or self-parking is readily available but a bit tight on weekends. Reservations accepted for groups of six or more. Always popular, Compadres is a comfortable and casual place full of great food and fun that has something for everyone. Written By: Lottie Tagupa Map In This Category
