From the H1 westbound, exit at Ewa. Continue down Ft Weaver Rd. turn right onto Papipi Rd and continue into Oneula Beach Park. Hau Tree is located at the very far end of the park behing the ball field. Description: Located on the leeward side of Oahu about 40 minutes from downtown Honolulu in an area commonly referred to as the Ewa Plain, this small beach is located at the remote far end of Oneula Beach. This beach and park area has been vastly ignored over the years and has been suffering a slow death of neglect, but new area development promises the beach to be refreshed and redeveloped soon. Plans include a refreshed beachfront, marina, shopping areas and even a hotel. A visit to this beach will find that even in its current state, it is being enjoyed on a daily basis. Fishermen, surfers and those enjoying the overgrown ball field are regularly visible. Although the parking lot has huge pot holes and the restrooms are in dire need of repair, the beach still has a reef-lined shore and white sandy shores large enough for a stroll or even shell hunting. It’s a clean beach and it even has a limited view of Diamond Head and downtown Honolulu. The water is immaculately clear and clean and the waves are large and powerful. The area is a part of an older community with homes of single wall construction and larger than usual lots. The beach used to be the center of community activity. It was the spot for family gatherings, birthday parties, high school bonfires and seaweed gathering. Longtime locals say that sand and beach erosion over the years has left the shoreline much rockier than in years past and the seaweed has long disappeared. Today area residents look forward to the rejuvenation and redevelopment of the area so it can be enjoyed more fully by all. Written By: Lottie Tagupa Map In This Category
