Description:
Bellows Beach, located along the windward side of Oahu offers some of the best beach real estate on the island. And it is owned by the Air Force! During the week, the beach is only open to those with military ID's. However, on the weekend the beach opens up to the masses, and people flock to Bellows’ gorgeous white sands and aqua water that cannot be competed with anywhere else on the island.

The beach boasts super calm waters, making it an ideal place for swimmers, kayakers and families. Boogie boarding is also possible but is only allowed in the area on either side of the lifeguard station. A long white strip of sand makes Bellows perfect for strolls and sunbathing and with wonderful views of the Koolau Mountain range and the numerous offshore islands. In addition, Bellows also offers plenty of shady, forested area, making it an ideal place for a day at the beach. However, watch out for Portugese Man-O-War which is not uncommon in these waters, although this writer has yet to come across them there. Also, due to the fact that the beach is closed to the general public during the week, it can get a little crowded on the weekends.

For those in the military, there is a military-only part of the beach, located just beyond the public section which is much quieter on the weekends, and a BX is located next to the air force beach where you can get gas, food and other essentials for the day. There are also plenty of cabins and camping space for military users, meaning that you can enjoy the beach for as long as you like, just book early because it fills up fast!

In addition to some of the bluest water you will ever see, and amazing views, Bellows also has plenty to offer in the way of facilities. As mentioned there are two lifeguard stations on weekends and during the summer. There are also plenty of picnic tables, as well as showers and restrooms making it an easy place to spend the day. For those that are looking for the perfect little tropical beach, it does not get much better than Bellows Beach.
