Description:
Located along the south shore of Oahu near the entrance to Pearl Harbor, this man made harbor was created by the marines and military civil engineers in the 1960’s for a beachfront recreational facility for the use of military dependants and their families. Opened in 1965, the harbor was carved out of coral and today it hosts a myriad of recreational opportunities. The area is only accessible to the military, dependants and guests.

To access the shoreline one must pass though through the main gate, continue past the airfield, housing and shopping areas. A drive though Hickam Air Force Base offers views of period architecture rarely seen on the islands along with high tech aircraft. Continue along the main road out toward the golf course, and the airfield operations military building and housing will give way to the sea scented air and ocean views. Once there, it has a feeling of being off the beaten path, relaxing and very welcoming.

The harbor is located just before Mamala Golf Course and the air traffic control tower. Very sunny for the most past although it tends to be a bit noisy due to the proximity to Hickam airfield and Honolulu International Airport. But the beach is safe, calm and the area is very enjoyable.

The largest building in the area houses the Seabreeze Restaurant. Overlooking the harbor and the nearby reef runway it’s a wonderful spot for watching aircraft traffic or to enjoy the sunset over drinks. The beach area nextdoor is lifeguarded and is open daily until 5pm. Cabanas, picnic tables and grills can be arranged for a nominal fee. Also available on a seasonal basis are kayaks, beach chairs, canoes, water tricycles and more.
