From the H1 freewar westbound, exit at Makakilo. Turn left at the light and continue along Ft Barrette Rd. Turn left at the old guard shack nad right onto Coral Seas. The beach is located ont he left just past Eisenhower Dr.

Description:
Located on what was formerly Barber’s Point Naval Air Station and only available to military and their dependants, Kalaeloa beach and the surrounding area is now easily accessible to anyone. Currently remote and secluded, this beach now is a part of what everyone is calling the island’s "Second City." New home development, road construction and more are rapidly changing the face of this quiet country setting.

The beach is just a 40 minute westbound drive from downtown Honolulu via the H-1 freeway, to the Makakilo off ramp. Once on former air station, the drive will take you down paved roads lined with overgrown with low land vegetation and bushes and out toward the oceanfront. The area is filled with mature Ironwood trees and the sun and sea-breezes are almost ever-present. The white sand beach is long but not very wide, and is hidden from the road by brush and naupaka bushes. The shoreline is always in a natural state, not groomed nightly like those famous resort beaches but the sand is clean, white, thick and the water is clear, turquoise and inviting. Caution is advised for small children and weak swimmers since currents and waves can always constantly be strong. The closest restroom and picnic facilities are down the road at White Plains beach, and neighboring Kapolei is nearest when it comes to drinks, snacks and gas.

Camping is available via the City and County of Honolulu at several locations on this beach. Fees are reasonable although holiday camping permits should be obtained in advance.

Overall, this beach is a wonderful spot to get away from it all, enjoy the sand, surf, sunsets and the star-filled nights.
