Unlike the other nearby lagoons, it’s not man made and attracts primarily a local crowd of families and nearby residents. It’s a perfect spot far away from the high surf and grinding currents of the larger and more popular north shore and leeward beaches and nestled within the upscale resort area of Ko’Olina.

It takes a long 40 minute drive from downtown Honolulu to get to this beach. The drive will take you past the city traffic, past other high profile beaches and past where the H-1 ends and where the leeward coast officially begins.

The area is quiet and has lots of trees and shade but it has no crowds, surf or picnic areas. It is a charming beach that is wonderfully secret, private and natural. Parking is very limited and what little there is fills up early in the day. No surfers or bodyboarders here, those activities are better kept for larger beaches down the road.

The beach has a small very sandy white sand beach, tide pools and crystal clear water that is perfect for families with small children and those who enjoy calm tranquil waters. The water is warm and very shallow for the most part but out toward the center of the cove the water is much deeper and offers great swimming opportunities. Snorkeling and fishing is also possible of the outer side of the cove entrance where gentle waves are ever present. The cove is perfect for sunbathing, wading, playing and reading and relaxing.

Don’t expect loud crowds or a lively beach scene here. It’s a serene beach for hard working residents to de-stress and refresh, and recuperate from island life

Directions

From the H1 westbound, exit at Kapolei. Continue past the guard shack and the beach will be on the right.
