Review

When visiting the windward side of Oahu, there are definite must-see beaches, such as Kailua Beach Park and Lanikai Beach. Kalama beach isn’t always on that "must-see" list, but that is exactly the reason why it is worth visiting. When you're looking for a quiet beach to relax on, without the windsurfing and other action seen on Kailua Beach, Kalama beach is definitely the place to go. Technically, you can walk to Kalama Beach from Kailua Beach Park, but Kalama boasts its own parking off of Kalaheo Avenue, in a pretty, residential area. It is a nice, secluded alternative to Kailua Beach which can sometimes get busy on the weekends when everyone is outside enjoying the water sports. Despite sharing the same beautiful stretch of white sand, and stunning views of the Mokulua islands as Kailua, Kalama Beach Park is smaller and quieter making it easy to relax, whether you’re gazing at the gorgeous expanse of water and the commanding views of Mokapu peninsula, reading a book, or just snoozing. In addition, the beach has lots of shady spots, so you don't always have to be out in the sun.

The water at Kalama Beach is usually calm, making it a nice spot for swimming, although it should be noted that there are no lifeguards. Small wave action also makes the beach a great place to try body boarding. In addition, Kalama Beach Park has a luscious park. The park is quiet, features a pretty garden area and has lots of nice spots for picnics. The beach park also has full facilities. Located in a neighborhood of pretty houses and B&B’s, it can be easy to drive right by Kalama Beach and not even realize it was there. But that would mean that you’d miss one of the quietest beach spots in Kailua!
