Review

Sunset Grill offers popular "American Bistro" foods in Restaurant Row, a small outdoor mall filled with bars, a movie theater, commercial office space and of course several restaurants. Restaurant Row is centrally located in Honolulu about half-way between Waikiki and Downtown Honolulu making it a naturally convenient venue for both locals and tourists to mix. Sunset employs a highly professional staff, provides a fabulous menu and a pleasant upscale atmosphere. More than food, however, what Sunset is really known for is their wine. It has been recognized in national and local publications, and has frequently been awarded the "Wine Spectator Award of Excellence." This is not surprising given the fact that it boasts a collection of more than 100 chardonnays alone, and nearly 750 wines collectively, including more than 30 international wines.

The food is also both affordable and appetizing and the menu displays a fabulous selection. Especially popular are the combination dinner entree's which, for example, can include a generous portion of a juicy filet mignon and king crab along with sides of saffron rice and grilled vegetables. Other favorite menu items for those that enjoy straightforward tastes include New Zealand mussels in white wine and butter, rack of lamb in mustard and herbs and salmon barbequed with hoison sauce. If you're also planning on starting with appetizers, I highly recommend the fresh calamari or stuffed shrimp. Sunset also boasts mouthwatering flambé desserts.

Sunset's a real hot spot for lunch especially with the locale's close proximity to the downtown working crowd. But due to the hype of the lunch hour crowd and kitchen noise, Sunset is highly recommended for dinner, when the interior is dimly lit and patio seating is elegantly decorated. Of course, stopping by during Happy Hours is an excellent idea because Sunset offers their impressive food and drink menu with significantly reduced prices.
