Becoming more suburban than country each and everyday, Iroquois Beach is located in an area that is that is far from the freeway, past established residential areas, golf courses, brand new housing developments and new construction. The beach has a private community ambiance and is tucked away from the general traffic and activity associated with larger more popular island beaches.

Once through the old cane fields and past the community guard shack which controls all access, the older neighborhood is filled with shady level paved streets. There are a multitude of refurbished and renovated ranch style beach homes on large unfenced lots that still have that essence of a Hawaii of years gone by.

The old Naval housing area is filled with mature plumeria trees that have blossoms that range anywhere from blood red to the sunniest of yellow and palest pink. The monkey pod trees are large and lush and in numbers not seen often on the island anymore.

Since most area beach-goers will opt to walk to this beach, street parking is readily available. Smaller than most Oahu beaches, it runs the length of this former Naval housing area, and has an abundance of white sand and raised sand berm that protects beachfront homes from high tides and large waves. The waves and rip currents that can be dangerous and this is not a swimming or surfing beach, but it has an almost constant breeze that provides wonderful relief to the islands warm temperatures and unobstructed panoramic views from downtown Honolulu and to Diamond Head. The beach is located on the east edge of the entrance to Pearl Harbor and provides an interesting vantage point to observe aircraft carriers, submarines and other traffic into and out of this famous port as well as aircraft landing at nearby Honolulu Airport.

Directions

From the H1 freeway westbound take the Ewa exit and continue along Ft Weaver Road. Turn left onto North Road and right onto Iroquois Ave. The guard shack will be ahead past the Naval Magazine.
