Review
The newest of several locations on O’ahu, this popular local paper plate and plastic fork eatery continues to expand on their ever popular formula of abundant reasonably priced and local style breakfast menu. The first location opened in 1988 by Il Man Chung they have been slow to expand over the years but their following has been loyal and their reputation soars with each addition to their chain.
Located in the Waipahu Shopping Center just off of Kunia Road, this small eatery occupies a far back corner of the shopping center and has a discount dollar store as a neighbor.
Smaller than the first Kaneohe restaurant, Waipahu is more like a plate lunch counter than a place to relax and linger over coffee and the Sunday morning newspaper. One must stand at the counter to place your order and find an open table on your own to enjoy your meal. The huge portions, cheap prices bring the crowds in everyday especially on the weekends.
The menu is an abundance of local choices from eggs and Portuguese sausage, mahi-mahi and eggs, spam and eggs and even a Portuguese picked pork favorite called vinha d'ahlos. Most selections feature the pancake combos with just about anything eggs. These pancakes are not the thin tasteless ones, but golden, thick and flavorful. There are also omelets, strawberry pancakes and a host of other treats. But the favorites are the chocolate chip and pecan pancakes. These are flavorful and very reasonably priced.
They only drawback to this place is that is closes in the early afternoon everyday and if you have a late night eggs and rice craving it’ll just have to wait until morning.
