One of the newer more enjoyable parks on the island, this park is located at the end of Ohe Street just off of Ala Moana Blvd. Well cared for and clean, this beautiful park is located in a light industrial area atop an old city landfill. The only visible remains of the past are the vents located throughout the area.

The 35 acre park stretches the length of the waterfront from the entrance of Kewalo Basin to the container ship loading docks. Certainly it is one of the more scenic and enjoyable of O’ahu parks. It is well outfitted with comfort stations, ample free parking, a waterfront promenade, paved walking paths and picnic areas. The park is unique in that is not a flat expanse where you might find ball fields and tennis courts rather, it is a hilly park that maximizes on the beautiful ocean, city and mountain and Diamond Head views. Families are frequently found picnicking while children are found sliding down the grassy knolls on old cardboard boxes. This park also has outstanding sunset views which are frequently used as backdrops for wedding and other photo shoots. In the early mornings it is not unusual to find joggers and walkers along with shoreline fisherman casting their lines for the day.

Near the Kewalo Basin harbor entrance is a popular surfing spot called Point Panic. The surf break regularly attracts many urban and country surfers especially during the summer when the surf is seasonally high and kids are out of school. The park is a perfect spot to watch the surfers catch wave after wave and views from the promenade are so close it seems you can almost reach out and touch both surfers and waves.

The best time of day to visit is during sunset when the procession of dinner sail boats begin to pass though the harbor entrance for an evening at sea, and the unobstructed sunset views are memorable.

Directions

From the H-1 eastbound exit at Punchbowl Street. Continue down Punchbowl and turn left onto Ala Moana Blvd. Turn right on Ohe Street. The park entrance will be at the end of the road.
