Aina Moana State Recreation Area

1201 Ala Moana Blvd
Honolulu , HI 98614

Every day 4:00 AM - 10:00 PM

Located along the clear clean waters of south shore of Oahu in the very heart of the hustle and bustle of Honolulu lies this man made outcropping where all Oahu comes to exercise, see and be seen and enjoy the island’s sun and surf.

More popularly referred to as Magic Island, this manmade land mass which was a later addition to the larger Ala Moana Beach Park is what separates the entrance to the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor and Canal from the rest of the park. It is quite the popular spot and hosts several large community events including half marathons, pet walks and more.

The area is used quite heavily from the earliest hours of the morning where you will find Honolulu’s power walkers, joggers and other exercise enthusiasts getting a jump on the day while at the same time avoiding the midday temperatures. During the noon hour it is a gathering spot for those in the area to sit under a coconut tree to enjoy the lunch hour with a lunch plate of Chicken Katsu or Beef Teriyaki while watching the million dollar yachts sail by or the beach bunnies soak up the sun. The late afternoons is yet another time for park goers gather to get in their daily exercise and when the local outrigger canoe clubs gather for daily practice.

But anytime is the time when you will find a steady stream of beachgoers and surfers who will circle the park searching for a perfect parking spot under one of the many shady Monkey Pod trees, gather their boards and beach gear and head for the water.

The park is busy on weekends and especially busy on holiday weekends like the Fourth of July where it is the scene of the state’s largest fireworks display. During these times open parking spaces are an absolute rarity.
