Be nice.

Treat others with the same respect you'd want them to treat you. We're all here to learn together. Be tolerant of others who may not know everything you know. Bring your sense of humor.

Be honest.

Above all, be honest. If you see misinformation, vote it down. Create your own review indicating what, specifically, is wrong. Even better — edit and improve the information! Provide stronger, faster, superior reviews of your own!

What are points?

Points are completely optional; normal use of Kulshan.com — browsing the site and reading reviews — does not require any points whatsoever.

If you want to help us run Kulshan.com, you'll need points first. Points are a (very) rough measurement of your contribution to Kulshan.com. Points are never given; they are earned by making the site a better resource. The more you contribute the more prominent your contributions will be on the site.

Here's how it works: if you post a review you will earn 10 points. If it is a good review, it will be voted up by your peers: you gain 20 points per vote. If you post something that's off topic or incorrect, it will be voted down: you lose 2 points. You can earn up to 200 points per day, but no more.

As a registered user, your points on the site are a part of your identity on the site. It determines, to an extent, your contribution to the site, because it can generally only be gained when your participation in the site. It also determines user’s privileges within the system. As you gain more reputation, the system learns to trust you and bestows new functionality that is restricted from low point users. Amass enough points and Kulshan.com will allow you to go beyond simply posting reviews:
  • +20 to post a profile picture.
  • +20 to delete your own reviews.
  • +50 to vote up a review
  • +100 to vote down a review (costs 2 points)
  • +200 to suggestion a location (Beach, Park, Restaurant)
  • +400 to delete another user’s review.
  • +1000 to change the address, phone number and hours of a location (Beach, Park, Restaurant)
  • +2000 to edit Kulshan.com’s review.
  • +5000 to remove a location (Beach, Park, Restaurant) from the website.

At the high end of this point’s spectrum there is little difference between users with high points and moderators. That is very much intentional.

How can a user gain or lose points?

Users gain or lose points based on how they interact with the system. Primarily this is by adding reviews which are voted on by other users. Reviews which are voted up earn the user points, and reviews which are voted down penalize them; however, up-votes are more heavily weighted than down-votes.

Users gain points when:

  • You post a review (+10 points)
  • You are first to post a review (additional +10 points)
  • Your review is voted up (+20 points)
  • You vote up a review (+5 points)

Users lose points when:

  • Your review is voted down (−5 points)
  • You vote down a review (-2 points)

Additionally:

  • All users start with 1 point.
  • A user's points may not drop below 1.
  • A maximum of +200 points may be gained per day.

Other people can edit my stuff?!

Like Wikipedia, this site is collaboratively edited. If you are not comfortable with the idea of your reviews being edited by other trusted users, this may not be the site for you.
